Things are actually heating up a bit here with regard to the whole UU thing... I've had an offer to port the original source to a *NIX base, which I'm considering, and Darque has made a few suggestions which I've taken up in the download library.

On a less happy note, Garth is having some serious money issues in Thailand, and those of us who remember and love the game might want to offer some assistance. He's currently living on a budget of under $30 a week, and the state of the Thai economy is such that anyone on less than $50 a week is classified as "very poor". If just a couple hundred dollars among all of us could go in his direction, that would make his last few months more pleasant, both financially and socially. I know that Garth has made a tremendous difference in my life, and there is little in this world to compare with knowing that you've made a difference to many people.

So if you can spare a little money, anything at all, please send it via PayPal to thai.bigelow@gmail.com - this goes directly to Garth, with no middle man and no processing delay. Gather anyone and everyone you know who appreciates UU and the legacy he's left. Let's show him just how many people he's touched.

First I have to correct an error from early condition summary. It often happens especially in the frenzied state after my implant had expired that I drop words, use wrong words, drop letters and such while writing. If it triggers the spell checker I usually catch it. If not, I only catch the error about half the time. In this case I dropped a number turning the figure we were living on from 4917 baht (~$150) a week to 917 baht a week (~$27). This created a bit of stir and I apologize for any undue concern created.

Also it bears reminding people that my rent is paid through the end of January, and I have almost two months worth of medicine on hand. With Mai's help we are managing to live cheaply and in comfort and still put a tiny bit away each week to build a fund for emergencies, my next trip to Laos and Visa fees, and so forth.

Any contributions, however are greatly accepted as this is not quite the grand farewell I had envisioned when moving to Thailand. On the plus side I found love again which I was neither looking for or expecting and that has made this a much more exciting adventure. But between the credit squeeze panic back home nearly wiping out my available credit, and the discovery of a interesting but expensive medication wiping out much of the cash I had on hand - while extended the amount of time I want to spend on this planet (shooting for February now), things are a bit tighter than I would have wished.

I know there is a lot of panic (and rightly so) over finances back home but if you have anything to spare please PayPal it to thai.bigelow@gmail.com.

And a few people a few people have expressed interest in me participating in UU games they have up and running. I'm sorry to say, that my mind is nothing like it use to be and playing would just be an embarrassment. I think I'd arther be remembered as I was...

Thanks for keeping the memory alive

Hello, my name is Jeff and I was (at one time) a well known tradewars player.  I had serious words with "Rick Mead" at the Eis forums and I am one of the few twars players banned for life from those forums.  (I wear that like a badge of honor).

I never heard of "ultimate universe" but it sounds far more entertaining that twars!  How is it I have never heard of it?  Can you describe the game to me in detail, or even better, where can I get a copy of it so I can run it for myself and find out?

The reason I'm asking is I think there's a possibility I can help here!  I am onto something that could prove very financially lucrative.  My only problem is I am an XTML and JAVA illiterate moron and would need someone to actually MAKE the idea work, but if it worked I believe the money would be mad!

well, let see, we have the black nova webgame, lotgd, lunatix, and others. i dont think any of those people are millionaires.  also, that web version of tradewars is an embarassing failure, looks like something out of  1995.

that is what you are referring to, am i right?
your idea is a webgame of UU?

you seem very enthusiastic, but your idea of a web game isnt new in any way shape or form.
